Style 04 · Large-scale narrative work for people who want the whole panel.

Nightmare
Realism

Nightmare realism is large-scale narrative work for people who want the whole panel. It is horror realism given room to be a scene rather than a subject: multiple focal points, a deliberate reading order, and negative space used as part of the composition instead of the space left over.

The discipline

What separates good from bad.

At this scale the drawing is the project. A back piece is designed as one image before a single line is transferred, because you cannot fix a composition in session three that was wrong in session one. Expect the consultation to be longer and the design stage to be real work.

Photographed

On skin.

No photographed example on file
No nightmare realism piece has been photographed for the archive yet, so none is shown — a neighbouring style's plate is never borrowed. Ask at consultation.

Fit

Who it suits.

  • Subject matter

Multi-element scenes, figure-plus-environment compositions, and pieces that are meant to be read rather than glanced at.
  • Skin tone

Works across the range. At panel scale, silhouette and value blocking carry the composition, which is the most skin-tone-independent way to build an image.
  • Scale

Back, full chest panel, full sleeve, or thigh-to-knee. This style does not compress — a nightmare scene shrunk to a forearm becomes a black blob within five years.
  • Who it is for

People committing to a long project: multiple four-hour sessions across months, with a deposit holding each one.

Placement

Where it lives.

  • Full back

The reference placement. One uninterrupted panel with the largest compositional range available.
  • Chest panel

Strong for symmetrical scenes. Sittings are planned shorter here than on the back.
  • Full sleeve

A wrap-around composition designed for a moving surface — the drawing is checked in the round, not flat.
  • Thigh to knee

The most comfortable large panel and the easiest to aftercare through a long project.

What to expect

How it gets built.

  1. 01

    Design stage is a stage

Panel work starts with a full composition drawing that you approve before any transfer. That is design time, and the deposit covers it.
  2. 02

    Sessions are booked in sequence

Each sitting is a standard four-hour session, spaced far enough apart for the previous section to settle. The count is estimated at consultation.
  3. 03

    Healing runs alongside the project

You will be healing one section while the next is being drawn. The aftercare schedule matters more here than anywhere else on the site.
