Dreams

Dream content as subject matter. Tate on Surrealism: it "balances a rational vision of life with one that asserts the power of the unconscious and dreams". This label arrives as a dangling soft reference from style_surrealist and now resolves. REGISTERED WITHOUT A PARENT ON PURPOSE - see cultural/structural note.

Cultural notes
Structural, not cultural: no fetched source places dreams inside any of doc 03's seven theme families, and forcing it under Spiritual and Symbolic or Human Experience would be an unsourced taxonomic claim. Left as a top-level theme with the question open.

  • Tate

Dates the movement to 1924 and attributes its founding to Andre Breton, quoting the Surrealist Manifesto definition 'pure psychic automatism'. Names dream worlds and psychological tension, the uncanny (the familiar made strange), automatism, and unexpected juxtaposition as its characteristic devices. An art-historical source; it makes no claim about tattooing.

Promoted from themes_seed.compatible_styles of theme_dreams ('surrealist'); styles_seed.common_themes of style_surrealist ('dreams'). Asserted independently from both ends of the relation; deduped to one edge. Confidence is the LOWER of the contributing rows, not the higher. Provenance inherited from the parent row(s): source_tate_surrealism; source_tattooing101_styles_list; the first is carried in source_id. compatible_with is symmetric; recorded once, traversable from either endpoint. No new fact: this edge restates a value already present in the corpus. STRENGTH 0.75 set by the T11.11c rule: this pairing is asserted by TWO parent rows, one from each endpoint's own association column; the pack's scale reads 0.75 as 'frequent'. Inputs are corpus counts only - no source count, tier or confidence is used.
