- no fetched tattoo-domain source names etching as a tattoo style distinct from engraving. This node exists to hold the distinction the Tier 1 print source establishes, and should be merged into style_engraving if a tattoo-domain source cannot be found.

Defines etching as a printmaking technique using chemical action to produce incised lines in a metal plate that hold ink. The plate (copper traditionally, now usually zinc) is covered with an acid-resistant ground; the artist draws through the ground to expose metal, and acid bites the exposed areas. Stronger acid and longer exposure produce more deeply bitten lines. Contrasts etching's chemical line with engraving's mechanically incised line; both are intaglio. Says nothing about tattooing.

States that engraving tattoos draw on metal or wood engravings typical of medieval European art and evoke antique prints, medieval illustrations and Renaissance engravings; that the defining visual elements are fine lines, hatching and delicate line shading producing great graphic refinement; and that typical subjects are portraits, animals, mythological scenes and religious subjects with a Byzantine flavour. Notes contemporary artists blending the style with film, TV and horror subjects. Does not separately define etching as distinct from engraving.

Promoted from motifs_seed.common_styles of motif_muscle_figure ('etching'). Provenance inherited from the parent row(s): source_sciencemuseum_anatomy; source_repo_style_preview_data; the first is carried in source_id. No new fact: this edge restates a value already present in the corpus. STRENGTH 0.5 set by the T11.11c rule: this pairing is asserted by ONE parent row's association column and by no second row; the pack's scale reads 0.5 as 'context-dependent'. Inputs are corpus counts only - no source count, tier or confidence is used.
